DESCRIPTION:<a href="https://www.ruqah.be/event/stern-the-man-the-gang-and-
 the-state-15">Stern: The Man\, the Gang\, and the State</a>\nEvent Descrip
tion Lagrange Points presents a screening of the documentary “Stern: The
Man\, the Gang\, and the State”\, directed by Egyptian filmmaker Hossam
Sarhan. The film examines the historical figure of Avraham Stern\, founde
r of the Zionist militant group Lehi (also known as the Stern Gang)\, and
explores the ideological and political foundations that shaped some of the
armed movements active in Palestine during the final years of the British
Mandate. Through archival material\, interviews with historians\, and cri
tical historical analysis\, the documentary investigates Stern’s politic
al vision\, including attempts to form alliances with Nazi Germany during
the Second World War\, and the broader context in which Zionist militias o
perated. The film situates Stern’s movement within the wider history of
paramilitary organizations such as Lehi\, Irgun\, and Haganah\, and raises
questions about the relationship between violence\, ideology\, and state
formation. Rather than presenting a single narrative\, the film brings tog
ether different historical perspectives and testimonies that challenge off
icial accounts and examine the processes through which militant movements
became integrated into the institutions of the Israeli state.Discussion Th
e screening will be followed by a discussion with the filmmaker Hossam Sar
han\, together with invited guests and researchers. The conversation will
open space to reflect on the historical themes raised by the film\, includ
ing the political history of Zionist militias\, the construction of nation
al narratives\, and the role of cinema and documentary work in revisiting
contested historical archives. Additional participants in the discussion w
ill be announced soon.Language Film &.Discussion in English. Reduced: EUR
